The Inevitability of History

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” — George Santayana

Sometimes, in the wee hours of the morning I have trouble getting back to sleep if I’m disturbed or if I drank too much beer before bed. In these quiet times I sometimes do some heavy thinking. Sometimes about my family drama, or I review some choices in my life, whether good or ill, and try to figure out how I would change if I went the other way on that decision. Sometimes I think of what it would be like to hit the lottery, or other wishful thinking.

Lately, these occasional midnight ponderings have turned dark. I see patterns that chill me to the bone. Years of Progressive party policies that have kept racial tensions strained for the sole purpose of manipulating minority voting blocks. Welfare programs that reward those for having as many children as possible. Unemployment insurance programs that keep the unemployed included in the statistics as long as they are useful, then disposing them when they are no longer useful.

I see policies implying everyone has a “right to a house,” the “right for free healthcare,” and the “right to go to college,” but these same policies do not provide the funding for these programs. I see the hidden hand of crony capitalism and how the masters pull the strings of those in Congress.

The Mass Media continually shows revisionist history, where some facts are omitted, and others fabricated to push the controlling interest’s agenda. Our televisions are filled with so-called “reality shows” where post-incident editing is used to effectively market rampant consumerism and morally bankrupt behavior as appropriate.

“Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past
Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now?”

Testify – Rage Against The Machine

The Internet has distanced actions from repercussions so much that a new term has been coined for this behavior, the “Internet Tough-Guy.” The overabundance of lawyers in our society has led to a multi-trillion dollar a year industry, where trivial lawsuits are continually clogging our courts. A Woman in Florida took the top off her hot coffee, and put it between her legs. She was rewarded millions for her stupidity. You cannot legislate common sense, but our betters will try.

Information is flooding our senses from the moment we awake to the moment we close our eyes for a fitful nights sleep. Advertising bombards us from every way imaginable, demanding we consume. Our brains did not evolve to process this level of information saturation. Like an addict, if you isolate the subject away from their Blackberries, iPhones, iPads, Internet, TV and radio then they begin to have classic withdrawal symptoms until they can make a clean break from the addiction.

Today, a bullied child that is finally pushed to violence becomes the aggressor, and the bully the victim. Today, children are killing themselves to escape being bullied. This phenomenon is not recent, but the number of cases has increased on a logarithmic scale. The intensity level of this bullying has risen dramatically with the advent of so-called “Social Media” which has been used by bullies to torment their victims on a never-ending, always-available platform.

What patterns  are emerging that harken back to the past?

Media censorship – many times governments have censored the media. Even here, in America, the media was heavily censored during the Civil War and every war after that. Now, we have a network of media moguls here in America that are self-censoring because many of these moguls are holding the strings to our elected officials. Objective news is a distant memory.

Nazi Germany, Facist Italy, the Soviets, and any other “evil” government did the same thing – only they were not nearly as effective at hiding the fact that the censorship was occurring as our own society.

Moral Collapse – Reality TV is the opiate of the masses. There is very little that is real in “Reality TV,” but don’t let the truth get in the way of a good marketing program. The diminishing moral fabric of our nation is leading to many problems. Civility is vanishing. How many times has someone let a door slam in your face instead of pausing for 1/2 a second to hold it? People allow their children to run around like wild animals, instead of maintaining family order and some discipline. There is a TV program that glorifies teen pregnancy. Reality game shows have winners that lie, cheat and steal to win. Our leaders don’t pay taxes. Some preach endlessly about global warming and diminishing resources, but use twenty times as much electricity as the average family of four.

It is the Fall of Rome all over again. Pointless news stories are the “Bread and Circus” for today’s citizen. Endless wars without clear objectives wear out our armies so when the Visigoths come, we will be helpless.

Police State – The largest expansion of government in the history of the United States was the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. this umbrella organization collected all federal law enforcement agencies under one roof. Overnight, the new heads of this DHS began to put together policies to embed themselves into the day to day lives of every American Citizen. The TSA spent billions on microwave scanners that are easily fooled. The very act of travel by airplane has become a terrorist act, with jack-booted thugs violating your rights with impunity.

Drones and surveillance cameras are being bought and deployed as fast as possible, to further extend the reach of government into your private life. Social Media has become the most effective snitch in the world, with every e-mail, tweet, and facebook post being forwarded directly to the DHS datacenters for examination and permanent storage. All the better to profile every citizen for the betterment of how effective the masters can dupe us into believing we are free.

Police are trained in aggressive, military-style tactics. Every master wants their guard dogs mean. Corporations are making millions because there are too many prisoners for the states to manage them. Mandatory minimums ensure a ever-growing population of inmates for these corporations to profit from.

“Time and time again throughout history as once great empires accelerated their declines, governments have taken steps to protect their interests against the people.” — Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog

So where is this going?  I see two main possibilities, either of which is frightening. I keep thinking of the rise of the fascist states. I also think of the collapse of the USSR, and how different regions could only be held together without the threat of violence for so long.

There will be a crisis soon. Soon being relative, I would have to say within fifteen years as we are talking about macro trends of history. If the economy holds together that long. Even if we do collapse, these trends I’ve listed above will guide the recovery and rebirth of this nation afterwards.

America’s unity has been tested before, with the Civil War. Revisionist historians painted over many of the other underlying reasons for the Civil War with the “slavery” paintbrush. The idea of a state, say Alaska, from leaving union has become as preposterous as pigs flying. The right for states to leave the Union is outlined in the Constitution, but no one wants that right widely published.

Our nation is becoming divided. The southwest is being overrun with legal and illegal immigrants from South America. Unlike other waves of immigrants, a significant percentage of these people have no desire to integrate into the “American Melting Pot” – they want the rest of us to accommodate them. Press 2 for English indeed. Can I press 3 for German, and 4 for Hebrew, 5 for Yiddish, 6 for Italian, 7 for Russian, 8 for French, or 9 for Sanskrit? No. Every wave of immigrants has integrated into a common language – English, but their culture has permeated through the melting pot for the betterment of all. As racial boundaries fall, the groups intermarry, which gives America unity. How many of you reading this right now are part X, and part Y? The South Americans should be no different, but for whatever reason – their own mental outlook, Progressive Party segregation policies, or whatever else — they are not mixing in. Like a clump of cornstarch in the gravy, they are ruining the American Experiment.

Regions of America are aligning themselves with different mindsets and attitudes than the other regions. the upper Northeast and the northern Rockies are independent and conservative, where New York, the lower NE states, and California are a Progressives’ dream State. Are these regions going to fracture like the USSR’s member-states did? I fear they will, and China would be the remaining superpower.

The other possibility is the darkest. Somewhere in America there is a charismatic leader waiting to gather the American idealists, glory hounds, and state-dependent together to forge a New America. As the police state grows to crush independent thought, the mob mentality grows until we are at war with the world.

If there is one thing I want you to remember about the power of stupidity of humans in large groups:

Adolph Hitler was voted Time Magazine’s Man of the Year in 1938

Man of the Year - 1938

A Shooting in Florida

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

I’ve had next to zero interest in the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida. I do not have any access to the facts of the case, and neither does the media. There are only two entities that know what really happened — Zimmerman and whatever higher powers that were paying attention at the time. I think this news story is nothing more than political bread and circus to distract us from the fumbling economy.

This post is not about the case, the shooting, or even the slew of rabidly frothing anti-gun lobbyists and assorted nitwits who have become “Stand your Ground” law experts before young Mr. Martin’s body was cold.

The point to this post is a warning. If the charges against Zimmerman are tossed out, as some legal “experts” think, then all hell will probably break out in Florida. With the race card played, I would not be surprised in the slightest if white people are targeted for violence across the United States. Which is funny, because Zimmerman isn’t white. But pointing this out to the rioting mob at your doorstep won’t change anything though.

The Progressives have been adding fuel to the underlying racial tensions in America for decades. Remember ACORN? Combine this with aggressive drug laws enforced by a white majority. Record levels of youth unemployment levels, especially for minorities. (Although I can make a solid argument many are not even trying to find work – the welfare state provides.)  Look what happened when OJ was found innocent. Now imagine the thoughts through a racially charged “mob mind” when “some cracker gets away with murder for shooting a young black man.”

The possibility of race riots cannot be ignored. If this case ever goes to trial, then when they announce the verdict I plan on being home, well away from any rioting. We cannot predict when the charges are dismissed, if they are dismissed, so make sure you are prepared to get the heck home if you have too.

Even if you have dark skin, get yourself and your friends and family home out of harms way. Even if you are a spectator, a rubber bullet fired into a crowd can ricochet into your eye. You might meet the description of someone who tossed a brick at a cop, and get a fatty-beat-down for no other reason than a case of mistaken identity.

Play it safe. Stay home and stay incognito.

Two Big News Items

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

There are two big stories out there that I feel everyone must know. First, Greece has a big bond payment due to the ECB today. The other story is a bit strange. A source of mine in law enforcement told me that an order came down to check to see if their gas mask filters have not expired.

The Greek payment is just another rung on the ladder out of this recession. I am convinced that Greece will default, but if the ruling oligarchy doesn’t let it be called a default, then the derivatives do not kick in. Without the trigger for the CDS (credit default swaps) on the now-worthless bonds, then the big euro banks stay liquid. Otherwise, it is a free-for-all as the dominoes start to tumble.

I guess we will see later this afternoon and tonight if the payment is made, if it is extended, or Greece defaults. The Greek crisis is the current hole in the levy. If we extend this “world economy as a levy” metaphor, then it is being undermined in many places: the PIIGS, the shrinking middle class, the outrageous US government debt, the “meltup” on Wall St., etc. As the economic leaders sandbag one part of the levy, the rest weaken further, draining resources faster then they can be brought to bear on these weak points. In other words while the world economic powers shore up Greece, Italy and Spain are collapsing. Even here in America, the FDIC is running out of funds to bail out banks. The CBO (congressional budget office) is endlessly revising the cost of socialized medicine upwards, while increasing the costs of our wars.

What’s going to happen when we are at war with Iran? The answer is more money printing, and eventually hyperinflation.

Onto the second story. You would think that a regular inventory of equipment is a normal thing for large law enforcement agencies, but it isn’t. Even after 9-11, there was no organized inventory of gas mask filters. My own conjecture leads me to believe that this is coming down from a federal agency, not at the whim of some higher-up in the chain of command.

As a prepper I am immediately thinking this has to do with the executive order signed by our President last Friday, the National Defense Resources Preparedness . Full text is here. A lot of people are freaking out about this. In short, it gives the Feds the right to take anything you own, make you work at their whim without compensation, and other anti-freedom and anti-free market stuff that gives the Libertarian in me an eye twitch that won’t go away.

I’m not as concerned as most preppers because there was an existing series of executive orders that already allowed this stuff. At first glance this seems to collect them all in one spot for easy dissemination to the goons in charge of the work gangs.I have not read the full text yet, and compared it to the existing executive orders, but I want to. When I do, I’ll make a post about it.

I do not know why this gas mask inventory is going on, but my guess is that some federal agency (DHS, FEMA, etc.) told the head honcho that there was a confirmed possibility of a terrorist strike involving chemical weapons, or there is a concern of riots on the scale of the LA riots in the 90′s.

I have asked my source to look into if his organization has increased their inventory of tear gas or where this order came from. I don’t know if he can get me that information without ruffling feathers, and I asked him not to draw any attention to himself over this. This is also why I will not name him, or even which agency he works for.

So there is a lot of stuff going on, I just hope my grain mill gets here before the bad stuff goes down. Stay alert. Trust no one. Keep your laser handy.

Is this it?

US bonds Interest rates are climbing and suffered the biggest sell-off in two years. As reported in the FT article.

Keep your wits about you, this is not a good thing for Uncle Sugar. ZeroHedge doesn’t have a story up (yet) Tyler needs to sleep sometime I guess.

As to why this is important please allow me to describe what has happened in every hyperinflation. As confidence in a currency wanes, weather marks, dollars or tulips, the prices of just about everything declines. The next phase is certain commodities start to rise in price as investors ditch the currency and run for a perceived store of value. This is why oil, gold, silver, etc is going bonkers but land is faltering. Investors realize that bonds are going to be worth fuck-all and the returns begin to rise as they fear that their returns will be below the inflation. Governments have to pay more (higher interest rate returns) to finance the same ammount of debt. This is where we are at now. The bonds rise in return as investors demand more and more interest to offset the skyrocketing inflation. Then we have a crisis in confidence in the currency. Then the shit hits the fan. Panic buying and selling wreak havoc in the markets. Guys in suits go on the radio/newspapers/TV/town criers to say how “Everything is OK.” People realize just how exquisitely fucked they are and dump the currency for anything and everything. Hyperinflation kicks in and it’s game over for that currency. People use other currencies to conduct business or barter.

Seems we are right on time for that earlier prediction of 6-9 months (4-7 months to go!) for a complete collapse. One thing missing from the article is who sold the bonds and who bought them. If China is dumping them then I fully expect the snide comments from both China and the US to get even snippier. I can’t for the life of me can think of anyone dumb enough to buy US treasuries, except the nitwits at the Federal Reserve.

Farmer’s Almanac

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well looks like the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a colder than usual winter.

Now in my personal experience, the Farmer’s Almanac is right about 75-80% of the time. Once again, prepare for a rough winter north of the Mason-Dixon line. Thanks for those that posted on the “Incoming!” post, looks like we are about a month early for the trees to be changing.

I’m working on a post on how to survive the winter now, it should be up in an hour or so.

Incoming!

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Well on the ride in to the job today, I saw a maple with the leaves starting to change. Normally we don’t see the trees start to change for another month, so I passed it off as the tree being diseased, mentally challenged, etc. A few miles later I saw a few more trees starting to change.

This is NOT a good thing.

Winter is coming, and it looks like it’s coming sooner by about a month. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think this winter is going to be rougher than usual, and I hate to see that I’ll be right. Could the other bloggers out there keep an eye out for early signs of winter and post your indications for the rest of the bloggers? Perhaps it’s just the northeast, and I hope so as Oil and natural gas are expensive!

Warning! Rants ahead!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Ok fair warning! Future posts might be in the form of a rant. Part of why I am blogging is to mentally review a topic, and/or purge, vent, etc. something that is pissing me off.

I usually review my posts several times, in order to clean up the cussing and my pathetic excuse for written language skills.

Please, I am not a troll, nor do I want to kick off a flame-war… It’s just sometimes the filters don’t kick in all the way. So if I do offend you, please re-read it a second time before getting pissed off. Odds are I didn’t mean it that way.

On the other hand If I want to piss you off, believe me there will be NO doubt… (hee hee)
